Diabetes and the workplace
Numerous studies show that the number of diabetics worldwide has already reached alarming levels. Experts agree that the situation will continue to worsen in the coming years. Particularly worrying is the fact that type 2 diabetes mellitus is increasingly being diagnosed in younger people, most of whom are actively participating in working life.
This year's World Diabetes Day theme is “Diabetes and Well-being,” with a special focus on “Diabetes and the Workplace.” This is an issue that affects many people yet is often underestimated.
Balancing work and diabetes is anything but trivial. Many people with diabetes face infrastructural hurdles: a lack of places to retreat to for blood sugar checks or insulin injections, irregular break times, or even shift work—all of which can make treatment difficult and impair quality of life.
As a responsible employer, DiaSys Diagnostic Systems GmbH is actively committed to ensuring that employees with diabetes can also manage their health optimally in the workplace. This includes:
- Dedicated private rooms that can be used for blood sugar measurements and insulin injections.
- Sports activities with colleagues and the DiaSys corporate benefit of registering for the EGYM WELLPASS program, because exercise is a key part of diabetes prevention and treatment.
- Awareness and openness to create a supportive environment in which those affected do not have to hide.
All of this stems from the basic idea that diabetes should not be an obstacle to working life. With targeted measures and an open approach, a healthy and productive working environment can be created for everyone.
