Lipoprotein (a)

Lipoprotein (a) [Lp(a)] is considered an atherogenic risk factor, independent of other lipid parameters and exogenous factors such as diet. Increased Lp(a) levels have a high predictive value for coronary heart disease, especially in combination with elevated LDL-cholesterol.

Reference Ranges

< 75 nmol/L for Caucasians
Each laboratory should check if the reference ranges are transferable to its own patient population and determine own reference ranges if necessary. For diagnostic purposes, the results should always be assessed with the patient’s medical history, clinical examinations and other findings.
